My Big Brother Rob...
An Essay by his Little Brother Bill
March 2007

"Seven years ago a perfect stranger of different cultural & ethnic background walked into my life.  At first I was a bit skeptical even a little scared.  Who is this man and why do I need him in my life were the questions I asked.  My mom informed me that the stranger was probably a little apprehensive himself about what he was getting into with a strange little boy.

Over the years we have spent a lot of time together going to sporting events and he attending my soccer and tennis games and birthday parties and his endless help with school projects.  I will always remember the pyramid we made from dog biscuits (I got an A for that project).

I also enjoy the quiet time at his home with his family, Denise, Jack and Beau, helping to rake leaves and doing other yard work, running errand for Denise and his helping me get birthday and Christmas gifts for my mom.

He talks to me about respecting my mom and others and lets me know when I am not so nice or if my grades are slipping in school.  He is also one of my biggest fans.  He applauds at my tennis matches and lets me know he is proud of my work at school and at home.  I can confide in Rob and tell him all my secrets ands feelings because he always has the right answers and knows exactly what to say.

I honestly can't imagine what life would have been like these past years without Rob being part of it.  He means the world to me.

You see, Rob is no longer a stranger.  He is part of my family and I can only hope and wish that he considers me a part of his family."

We  at BBBS of Atlantic & Cape May Counties are especially proud of this 7-year match.
Little Brother Bill is now also a High School Big Brother  to an elementary school student.
